How much does poster printing cost?

The price depends on the size, the stock, any lamination and the quantity. Larger quantities bring the cost per poster down, and standard formats on our standard stocks are the most economical. For instant prices, order A4 and A3 posters or A2 to A0 posters online. For bespoke dimensions, specialist stocks or larger runs, send us your specification and we will produce a no-obligation quotation.

Is a poster A3 or A2?

It can be either, as there is no fixed poster format. A3 (297mm x 420mm) is the most common choice for windows and noticeboards. A2 (420mm x 594mm) suits a poster that needs to be read from a few metres away. We print everything from A4 to A0, plus bespoke dimensions.

Where are you based, and can I collect my posters?

Our studio is at 1-2-3 Swallow Units, Alphinbrook Road, Marsh Barton, Exeter, Devon, EX2 8QF. We also send posters nationwide by DPD tracked delivery.

What is the most eco-friendly way to print a poster?

Choose an FSC® certified or recycled stock, add lamination only if the poster needs protecting, and order the quantity you need. The printer’s credentials matter too: we are FSC® certified, ISO 14001 accredited and a Carbon Balanced Printer through the World Land Trust.

Can you print posters for outdoor use?

Yes. Our 195mic waterproof material is tear and moisture resistant, PVC-free and recyclable. It suits short-term outdoor use such as events, A-boards and temporary promotions. For longer-term outdoor display, talk to us about rigid signage.

Poster sizes, from A4 to A0

The right poster size depends on where it will hang and how far away people will be when they read it. As a guide:

A4 and A3: windows, noticeboards, counters and event listings, read from close up
A2: shop windows, reception areas and A-boards
A1 and A0: exhibitions, launches and large spaces, where the poster needs to be read from across the room

A4 and A3 posters are produced using digital printing. A2, A1 and A0 are produced in our large format studio, which handles all our large poster printing.

If the standard formats do not fit the space, we can produce custom sizes. Give us the dimensions when you ask for a quote.

Gloss, matt and waterproof posters

The paper stock you choose can make a big difference to the look and performance of your printed posters, affecting colour, glare, durability and where they are best displayed.

Our standard range covers:

200gsm Silk: a satin finish with a minimum of 40% recycled content, FSC® certified
200gsm Smooth Uncoated: a bright, smooth surface that suits type-led designs, FSC® certified
210gsm Semi-Gloss: a water-repellent, photo-quality finish for image-led designs at A2 and above
200gsm Matt Uncoated: FSC® certified, acid and chlorine free, with no glare under shop or gallery lighting
195mic Waterproof: PVC-free, tear and moisture resistant, and recyclable

For gloss posters, choose the semi-gloss stock or add gloss lamination. Matt lamination suits posters under bright lighting, where reflections would make the copy hard to read. On A4 and A3 we also offer soft touch lamination, single or double sided.

Lamination is the main finishing option for posters, and worth adding where a poster will be handled or displayed for a long time.

Uncoated stock absorbs the ink into the paper rather than holding it on a coated surface, so colours read softer and the sheet has no shine under shop or gallery lighting. It suits type-led designs, art prints and posters that are read close up. Our uncoated poster stocks are FSC® certified and without lamination are easily recyclable.

On bespoke projects we can print on other weights, recycled paper and designer stocks. For rigid displays such as foamboard, our signage team can help.

Eco-friendly printing, down to the materials

Our silk, uncoated and matt poster stocks are FSC® certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, so the fibre comes from responsibly managed forests. The silk carries a minimum of 40% recycled content, and our waterproof material is PVC-free and recyclable.

We are a certified Carbon Balanced Printer through the World Land Trust, and our paper has been carbon balanced as standard since 2014 at no extra cost to you. The studio runs on 100% green energy with a zero landfill policy. Large posters are wrapped in eco-friendly tissue paper and sent in cardboard tubes.

Indoor and outdoor posters

Most posters are displayed indoors, and any of our paper stocks will suit. Silk is the all-rounder for promotions and events. Uncoated and matt stocks give a softer finish for galleries, menu boards and limited-edition art prints.

Paper posters are not made for long periods outdoors. For A-boards, market stalls and events, our 195mic waterproof material resists tearing and moisture. Its grey light-block backing stops anything behind the poster showing through. It is designed for indoor or short-term outdoor use.

Window posters need some thought too. The semi-gloss stock is water repellent, which helps with condensation, and a matt finish cuts glare from the glass.

Print quality, artwork and proofs

A poster is read close up and from a distance, so colour and sharpness matter at both. Our pre-press studio checks your artwork before printing and converts RGB and Pantone colours to CMYK during proofing, so the quality you approve is the quality we produce.

For the best results, supply a print-ready PDF with 3mm bleed and no printer marks, images at 300 dpi, CMYK colour, and fonts outlined or embedded. Double-sided posters need each side as a separate page.
