At Ashley House, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and are proud to be known as one of the most eco-friendly printing companies in the UK, going out of our way to source sustainable materials wherever possible.
As a business that recognises the importance of environmental protection, we do everything possible to make the world a greener place and run our business in a sustainable way, from training employees on environmental issues, using green energy and recycling all waste, to working with numerous environmental charities and organisations including Surfers Against Sewage and Row for the Ocean/Plastic Free Exeter - fighting the plastic pollution crisis and campaigning for plastic-free coastlines.
We have also pledged to support the Printers Against Plastic campaign. Their mission is to reduce the dependency of single-use plastic across the printing industry and eliminate landfill waste by raising awareness, inspiring change and reducing plastic waste across the industry by 50%.
As proud supporters of these plastic-free campaigns, we wanted to do our bit to reduce our use of plastic wherever possible, with the aim of becoming a totally plastic-free business. We have been working on making this happen as quickly as we can and have been working hard on changing how our orders are packaged, replacing any plastics with either non-plastic alternatives, or biodegradable solutions. So far, we have introduced:
- Eco-friendly cardboard boxes for business cards and letterhead paper
- Recycled envelopes with a cornstarch window
- Eco-friendly shrink wrap
- Oxo-degradable pallet wrap
- Fully recyclable paper tape and corrugated card
- Reusable, plastic-free packs for every member of our team
As well as making changes ourselves, we ask our suppliers about their use of plastic packaging to raise awareness along the supply chain. We are currently in talks with our paper suppliers about how paper pallets are packaged and encouraging them to find alternative methods. We’re pleased to say that they are looking into the use of metal straps and wax board coverings instead of using plastic and polythene.
